PM Supports Embattled Pol Pawpa Mena
posted (July 31, 2020)
And, in those general elections, the Prime Minister says he would like to see Frank Pawpa Mena represent the UDP in the Dangriga constituency.

As we have reported, there's a petition form UDP's in the division asking for a convention to replace Mena, who they feel cannot win.

But, the PM does feel he can win. He explained why today:

Reporter
'What do you make of the situation down in Dangriga in respect of Frank "Pawpa" Mena and the UDP committee down south?"

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow- Prime Minister
"I am distress, but I can tell you that while clearly there is some degree of discontent as is evidence by the letter and I gathered there is now a petition circulating. In my personal view, but I am bias, I happened to think very highly of Pawpa Mena, I happen to consider him a personal friend and I will say this: I have never seen any politician that is able to connect with people in quite the way that Pawpa Mena is able to. The man is magic, but that's not necessarily all that is required to win an election. For my money, Pawpa Mena would absolutely go clear in the election. We're still not quite certain what the position of the Honorable Mena is, whether in fact he still intends to stand in the next elections. So I would leave it at that, merely repeating that with every respect to those that have been inveighing against him, my own position is that he is the best candidate that the U.D.P. could have to contest that Dangriga seat."
