That Case In Corozal
posted (August 4, 2020)
And that brings us to the other case of concern - the one of a woman police constable in Corozal. Health authorities have not found out where the Ranchito resident contracted the virus - but they do know that she had gone to San Pedro on work duties in the middle of last month.

Here's Manzanero discussing the details of her case:

Dr. Russell Manzanero, Epidemiologist, Ministry of Health
"In the case of Corozal, this is being presented in a law enforcement officer. She is twenty-eight years old, resides in Ranchito. When we look at the dates and symptoms being presented, it is quite classic about what we expect - the shortness of breath, fever, joint pain and loss of appetite. She basically started with that on July twenty-second. She started to feel ill and consulted over the weekend, the twenty-fifth at the hospital. She was seen primarily there to get swabbed from there on Monday twenty-fifth she was admitted and isolated immediately in the isolation area with suspicion of COVID. That diagnosis came afterwards that she tested positive for that for that. From then she was started with oxygen. At that point when you are in isolation and you are in the hospital setting is basically to get assistance with oxygen therapy. That was initiated, of course, they ran some other tests and they did find out as well that she is now with a pneumonia. I believe Dr. Manzanero had mentioned that the patient is stable, she has had since the admission - she was admitted on the 27th July and since then she was having peeks of fever. Since the weekend it seems to have been residing and she has now been given some additional medication. What we are trying to establish here is that we have not been able to establish any kind of travel outside or contact with anybody that has crossed the borders or anybody that has been dealing with any contraband goods. So for us this here does merit an intense investigation. The individuals working with her has been isolated. That investigation is ongoing with them as well. Her famiily members which are six in the household have already been isolated and have been swabbed as well. We do know that of interest is that she did visit San Pedro from Julyt 15th-17th -she was in San Pedro for a court hearing. Her symptoms started on the 22nd. On the 25th we do know that she attended a church service in Ranchito and from there the first contact she had with the health facility. Pretty much after that she has been hospitalized and has been responding favorably and is stable at the moment."

The 14 officers who shared the shift with this woman constable at the Corozal Police station have been placed under quarantine.
