COVID Cases Spike, School Reopening Pushed Back
posted (August 5, 2020)
Everything can change in a day…and it has! After 15 positive cases for COVID 19 were confirmed last night in Orange Walk, Corozal and San Pedro, government has completely changed its COVID 19 rollout plan.

And so, schools will not open next week August 10th, and tourism will not open on August 15th.

The announcement was made this evening at a national press conference to discuss the response to the changing COVID numbers:

Hon. Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
"That in light of the spike in cases and an overall uneasiness on the part of parents and teachers and in deed the students themselves that the ministry of education will adjust its plan for the national reopening of schools for August 10th, 2020 until further notice. So in short we will not be reopening schools nationally and we will announce at a later date when it is we plan to reopen schools."
