posted (August 5, 2020)
In the middle of all the COVID concern we've been reporting on, there's a quite remarkable story coming out of the north. Today in Orange Walk near the toll bridge, Special Branch police intercepted a government pickup, a Mahindra, allegedly smuggling over 7 pounds of weed.

Three immigration staffers were Inside the Department pickup when they were stopped at a checkpoint between miles 40 and 50 on the Phillip Goldson Highway.

One was a driver for the Immigration Department at Belmopan Headquarters, the other a grade 11 Immigration Officer attached to Belmopan Immigration Headquarters Investigation Unit, and the third another immigration officer attached to the Investigation Unit in Belmopan. The weed was in a brown cardboard and weighed 3.3 kilos or seven and a quarter pounds.

The men were arrested and processed and are expected to face drug trafficking charges.
