And keeping it on news about cross-border concerns, yesterday, Jose
David Perez, an alleged border jumper, from a village in the Cayo
District, escaped from the quarantine centre at the Victor Galvez
Stadium in the San Ignacio.
Reports reaching the press are that an allegation has been raised that
one of his relatives allegedly paid some sort of a bribe to a BDF
soldier, to allow him to escape.
We asked the Commissioner about the case and that accusation, and
here's what he had to say:
Reporter
"A boarder jumper in Cayo suggested that law enforcement in the form of BDF
soldier was supposedly paid to facilitate the escape of this particular
person."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I cannot say that the BDF was paid, you know allegations are always made
but yes, the border jumper did escape from the Victor Galvez stadium in San
Ignacio and in a chat group yesterday, I saw where General Ortega said,
that there was clear negligence on the part of the BDF who were manning the
centre and that actions were in motion to deal with the officers who may
have put down their guard or negligent in allowing the border jumper to
escape."
