Prisons Puts Public Visits On Pause Due To COVID
posted (August 11, 2020)
As the headlines remind us nightly, the COVID threat is real and growing, and that's why the Belize Central Prison has announced that it is suspending all prison visits. A release says, this change is a direct response to the community spread of the coronavirus in San Pedro and the Orange Walk district.

The suspension starts this Friday, August 14th, 2020, and it will remain in place until further notice.

In the interim, prisoners and their loved ones will be expected to maintain contact via telephone.

Their press release says, quote, "During this time the loved ones and friends of inmates will only be allowed to make "cash deposits" into their Personal Accounts for them to be able to purchase from the prison's commissary.

The prison has once again ramped up its screening and isolation efforts and expects full compliance by all persons visiting the facility." End quote.
