COVID Comes To The KHMH
posted (August 12, 2020)
And, as the KHMH now manages that critical COVID case, it has worry within its own walls after one of its doctors tested positive.

An internal memo issued this afternoon says that one staff member has tested positive. It adds that management has imitate contact tracing within the hospital. It advises staff who are exhibiting respiratory symptoms to call the hospital epidemiologist for further assistance and guidance. It orders staff to remain in their assigned units and only traverse the hospital for work related duties.

Today on Ask The Experts, Dr Manzanero would only say that this Doctor did not contract it in the hospital:

Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"One doctor at Karl Huesner, it would not seem from the initial contact tracing that has been done that he would have been infected in the line of duty and as a matter of fact the reason why he was swabbed is because he was linked to a previously identified case."

And while all that puts a nice clinical sheen on it - the fact is, medical and non medical staff inside the KHMH are panicking tonight. That is because this doctor - a specialist we are told - has been in circulation within the hospital for some time - and just tested positive last night - so he was likely carrying the virus before that. During that time he had contact with many persons at the hospital, including staff and patients. Because off this there is fear that the footprint of infection could be significant. We have been pressing the KHMH for an interview on the timeline on this urgent public health issue at the country's largest hospital, but none has been forthcoming. We'll keep following it.
