John B. Consulted On OW Lockdown
posted (August 12, 2020)
But, while the UDP takes issue with Briceno's comments from yesterday, the Prime Minister said last week that he would consult the Leader of the Opposition on whether or not it is prudent to institute a lockdown for the Orange Walk District.

We asked Briceno about his recommendations the PM:

Hon. John Briceno, Leader of the Opposition
"My advice is that I rather us to be, to err on the cautious than to regret later on so I did speak late last week, during the weekend with the Prime Minister and said that if we need to lockdown Orange Walk district then we have to lockdown because we can't afford this virus to continue to spread. I think as a nation, because we thought we have defeated somehow this virus, people started to got… started to not wear the mask, the border jumpers, people coming in on repatriation and so forth obviously then it started to spread so if we have to lockdown the Orange Walk district or the entire country then I think we should. It is not a decision to take lightly."
