Breaking Down Last Night’s Samples
posted (August 14, 2020)
We note that those numbers did not seem to reflect the full, updated figures up to last night's test returns.

So, we turn back now to Dr. Manzanero's comments from 90 minutes ago, in which he provided a brief breakdown of the 60 positive cases which were identified last night. Those cases come from a batch of 172 samples that were tested. By the Ministry's official count those 60 brings the country's total number of positive COVID cases to 356, and total number of active cases to 322.

Dr. Manzanero explained:

Dr. Marvin Manzanero - Director of Health Services
"In the batch of samples processed yesterday and I'll go briefly through those, 60 positives out of a 172. One case in Independence we have already highlight the issue in Independence is 5 of those cases had been in personnel who had been working on a tug boat in the transfer of cargo between here and Honduras. So those 5 persons were reactive and the other case was in a child whose mom has been previously diagnosed as positive. We had 1 case in Caye Caulker. I know that there was a little bit of concern as to Cayo and Belmopan. I made the distinction of the Cayo District outside of Belmopan, it's not that we are getting our geography wrong. We know very well where Belmopan is located in the middle of the Cayo District. We have 3 cases in Belmopan. These are from previously contact tracing notes. Remember we said we normally classified them based on where you are swabbed. 4 cases had been swabbed in San Ignacio community hospital, but none of those are actually in the twin towns. 2 are from Succotz and one is in Duckrun 1 as we now know it. 12 cases in Corozal, 16 cases in Belize City. We are being told now that these cases are not necessarily linked to San Pedro cases. We are starting to find that some cases in Belize City don't have any establish link. 23 cases in Orange Walk and they are in the villages that had previously identified cases such as San Felipe, San Jose, Guinea Grass and San Pablo."
