8:00 PM Curfew In Effect
posted (August 17, 2020)
And while there's no lockdown - as of yesterday they were enhanced measures to curtail social movements, and, with it, the spread of the virus.

At midnight on Saturday, those stricter measures came into effect, with a national 8:00 pm curfew leading off.

The Attorney General hosted an episode of the Ask the Experts on Saturday night to outline the new measures.

Here's what the AG had to say about how the curfew time period has been increased by 2 hours for weekdays and weekends.

Hon. Michael Peyrefitte - Attorney General
"So, these regulations will be in effect until about early September, as well as San Pedro, Santa Marta, Guinea Grass, Shipyard, those will be on lockdown until September 4th, I think, or 3rd, or something to that effect. So, starting tomorrow night, from Sunday to Thursday - this is for adults. From Sunday to Thursday, starting tomorrow night, the curfew will be from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. - or 4:59 a.m.

"Starting next Friday and Saturday, like how tonight it's 12 o'clock, next week Friday and next week Saturday, the curfew will be 10 p.m. So, we lose 2 hours Friday and Saturday, and we lose 2 hours from Sunday to Thursday."

"For children, for minors, the curfews will be the same. You can be out, if you're a minor under 16, up to 8 p.m. on Sundays to Thursdays, and 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday. However, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., if you're a minor, you must be accompanied by an adult, if you're to be in a public space."

"And on Friday and Saturday, you can be out from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., 4 hours, but you must be with a parent or guardian. So, if you are a child, a minor, and you're not with a parent or a guardian, some adult, you cannot be out after 6 p.m, no day."

The government is asking business owners to close their establishments 1 hour before the curfew hour. This is to allow their employees to reach home on time so that they are not breaking the curfew law.

Businesses such as discotheques, bars, rum shops, and night clubs will remain closed, and casinos are now closed.
