By our count, Belize City now has 64 active cases. And that includes death #3, the 52 year old technician Luis Romero.
Death #4 comes from Orange Walk, 63 year old Carlos Peralta - who died of a heart attack at a private clinic in Belize City. He has now officially been added to the COVID count, as death #4. Dr. Manzanero explained why today:
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, DHS
"There was a concern particularly with the two patients that have died through the weekend as to whether they should be classified or not and interestingly enough the patient that died on Saturday it is associated to a heart condition we will not know how much of that was a contributing factor with COVID-19 because he had other conditions. But we have another patient who has a stroke at Karl Heusner, not intubated, hospitalized who is also COVID-19 positive the diagnosis was made after the stroke had been documented. We have another patient who was intubated yesterday that arrived, she had already been diagnosed with COVID19 and arrived in respiratory distress rather promptly so it could be that there is a prothrombotic process happening in the lungs for her so I think that is important to say."
