Big Fred, Still Fighting For Freedom
posted (August 20, 2020)

And, keeping it in Orange Walk, on Monday's news, we told you about the complaints from the accused border jumper, Alfred Usher. He's the 56-year-old Belize City resident who says that he should have been out of quarantine for several days now. But, he says that the health and law enforcement authorities seem to have forgotten that he and other quarantine detainees are stuck in detention.

As we told you, he was arrested in Orange Walk 20 days ago for being in possession of contraband. The cops say that he had 4 cartons of Sunny cigarettes on him. Usher claims that they found the items in a nearby lot, and not on him.

Usher says that he is sort of stuck in no-man's land, since his quarantine period should have been over. As far as he has been told, he should have been charged for the contraband item, and then arraigned. But, for some unknown reason, he's being left at the quarantine facility in Orange Walk for an unreasonable, and apparently interminable amount of time.

He spoke with us today via telephone from the quarantine facility, and here's what he had to say on his extended detention for COVID-19:

Big Fred - Reporter

"Has anyone made any attempts at least start the processing of these charges they say you have to face?"

Voice of: Alfred Usher - Detained in Quarantine

"Well, from yesterday, they have 3 persons, 3 guys that they moved. One went in the morning and the other last night. 3 Mennonites went last night. I guess they were doing it in turns. Whoever was here first gotta go first."

Reporter

"So, you're still there, your quarantine continues well after 2 weeks."

Voice of: Alfred Usher

"Tomorrow will make 3 weeks."

"Let's say, for example, there are some people who think, you know what? I have no kind of sympathy for people because you guys get yourself in there. How would you attempt to convince them otherwise?"

Voice of: Alfred Usher

"I am not going to convince them because they have already painted us as the ones who have the COVID virus here. So, I can't convince them. The Health [authorities], it's them who are convincing people that we have the virus. We don't have the virus. Do you understand? We don't have anything. If we had it, we would have died already. Nobody come check us. We have no symptoms or anything."
