And while those are the major announcements coming out of today's press conference, the Director of Health services also discussed the latest numbers.
He began with the samples which were processed yesterday:
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
"We have 272 tests done. Out of those we have 41 samples as positive, 2 in Corozal, 7 in Orange Walk. For the Belize District we had a total of 23 with 15 being in San Pedro. 8 in the rest of Belize District. The Cayo district had a total of 9, with 5 in San Ignacio and 4 in Belmopan.
"We have out of the samples processed yesterday we have 5 recovered cases, 2 from the Orange Walk District, 1 from Corozal, 1 from Belize District and 1 in San Pedro. Yesterday we reported 52 new cases, 10 of those were in the Belize District and we had cases in Belize City, 7 in Caye Caulker, Ladyville and San Pedro. For the Cayo District we had cases in Benque, San Ignacio, Santa Elena and Succotz. For Corozal we had in Alta Mira, Caledonia, Chunox and Concepcion. For Orange Walk which is where the bulk of the cases were positive yesterday, we had cases in August Pine Ridge, Blue Creek, Louisiana, Orange Walk Town, San Antonio, Sa Estevan, San Felipe, San Jose, San Jose Palmar, Santa Martha, Trial Farm and Yo Creek."
"In terms of patients that are at Karl Heusner we have 3 intubated patients and 2 in the area that is the COVID-19 area that are not intubated. My understanding from the Karl Heusner staff is that one of those persons may actually be discharged today, one of the non-intubated patients. So it is one male and two females that are intubated at Karl Heusner. Southern Health Region Hospital also has one patient that is more than likely going to be discharge later today."
Last night's numbers were more detailed and had a breakdown of infections in villages, cities and towns countrywide.
Here are the standouts:
The Belize district leads the pack with 298 confirmed cases: 208 cases in San Pedro, 5 in Caye Caulker, 64 in Belize City, and 10 in Ladyville.
But there are also extremely high numbers in Orange Walk, 126 district-wide with 25 in Orange Walk Town alone. The villages that are on lockdown have smaller numbers with 20 confirmed cases in Shipyard, 12 in Santa Martha, and 10 in Guinea Grass.
There are also 43 confirmed cases in Corozal: 13 in Corozal Town, 6 in Concepcion, and 5 in Xiabe.
Out west the numbers are more modest at 54 cases in the Cayo district with 23 in Belmopan, 3 in San Ignacio, and 6 in Benque Viejo.
Stann Creek has just 11 cases: 5 in Independence and 4 in Hope Creek, all members of the same family.
There are currently no active cases in the Toledo district.
