New Fire Truck For Peninsula
posted (January 18, 2021)
And from honoring the father of the nation to putting out fires down south, the U.S. embassy in collaboration with U.S. Southern Command and the Denton Program has facilitated yet another delivery of two more fire trucks for Belize. They arrived today via US military cargo plane, and this time they're destined for the Placencia fire station.

But they're not here by accident, they're the result of a plea for assistance launched via Facebook by Placencia resident and former firefighter David Kafta. Kafta who became a volunteer firefighter after moving to Belize saw the need for the upgrades, and his efforts eventually lead to this donation by the Joanna Volunteer Fire Department and Cross Hill Fire Department.

A handing over ceremony will be held in the village in early February. Thereafter, one of the two fire trucks will be used to reduce response times for the 24-mile-long Placencia road, while the other will be used as a tender to increase water supply. The trucks come with equipment, foam, and bunker gear to increase their capacity to respond and fight fires.
